Now the academic marking dust has settled, I knew it was time to get back out on site with Jo and Richard. With the ever reliable support of Chris Hughes, General Foreman of Forest Wood, we visited a number of the quadrats to collect soil samples and search for interesting plants (more on that later). Both Richard and Jo are making great progress: Jo's preliminary data suggest there may be more temporal variation in the micro-organism communities than first thought; while the (impressively) high plant species richness on the translocated soils is perhaps aided by areas of thick buddleia cover.
